Foraging and Feasting

The Cressing Temple Food Festival was a roaring success for us. Saturday was a reasonable day, and I was lucky enough to meet John Torode as he wandered around some of the food stalls in between his cookery demonstrations. I offered him a sample of the Peach Bellini, which he said was “very nice”, although I don’t know if that counts as a proper celebrity endorsement or if he was just being polite! Sunday was a much busier day and we all but sold out by closing time. However, that wasn’t the highlight of our weekend.
On Friday evening we drove over to Sudbury for dinner at Shillingfords at the Quay. Based on the top floor of the Quay Theatre, Carl Shillingford of Seasonal Suffolk has set up a restaurant using foraged and seasonal produce. I’m almost reluctant to tell people about the place as I’d like to keep it secret, but the food’s too good not to tell people. Portion sizes are not too large, so that you can enjoy several courses without being over full. Menus change every couple of weeks in line with whatever’s in season. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Hilary Delamare

Choctails® was founded by husband and wife team Simon and Hilary Delamare. Simon's suggestion of putting cocktail flavours into chocolate took Hilary's chocolate-making hobby to new heights, until in May 2012, the decision was made to turn the hobby into a full time business. The domestic kitchen became a production factory by day, and the dining room was given up to become a place where hand-made chocolate is crafted
