I managed a sneaky half day off this week. Mr. D treated me to Duran Duran tickets at the O2 for my Christmas present, so I had an early finish on Tuesday to go to London. I stopped off at the Aquatics Centre in Stratford for a swim in the afternoon, which I can really recommend. It’s an incredible experience to swim in the Olympic pool and the venue itself is fabulous.
Seal was the second support act (we’d missed all but the last song of the Bloom Twins set through having dinner), and was absolutely fabulous. Fantastic voice and great to hear some of his new work in amongst his classic hits.
And then on to the Duran boys. It’s the sixth time I’ve seen the band live and they get better every time. The first occasion was at Leeds Queens Hall for the Rio tour back in the early 80s and was my very first live gig. I was stuck about halfway back, miles from the stage and screamed my way through the entire gig. This time I was a little more reserved – only a little, mind as we were on row D. They played a good smattering of songs from the Paper Gods album, and some of the classics. Save a Prayer was dedicated to the victims of the recent Paris shootings, with an honorable mention for the Eagles of Death Metal. There was a confetti shower during Pressure Off, and I’ve been finding confetti in the strangest places for the rest of the week.
I’ve been on a high all week but I think I’ve just about come back down to Planet Earth now.
