I’ve had the first proofs through for our Festive Collection boxes and I’m really excited about how they’re going to look. We’ve submitted fresh samples to the retailer as some of the flavours and designs needed tweaking. That of course means proof reading – something I used to do on a regular basis when I was producing CRM training manuals, but not something I’m quite so used to these days.
Proof reading is always more difficult than you think it’s going to be. As soon as my mind wanders in the slightest I stop and do something else and then pick up where I left off, otherwise I find I’ve been staring at words on a page without absorbing a thing. It’s also frighteningly easy to read what you expect as opposed to what’s actually there. The tip I was given to combat this problem is to also read the passage backwards – you’ll be amazed at how something you thought was right suddenly jumps out as an error using this technique.
Also this week I’m on dessert duty as we’re having a summer party as a way to catch up with a lot of friends we’ve not seen in far too long. Of course, now, I’m expected to come up with something spectacular and unfortunately my pastry work isn’t as good as I’d like it to be. I guess I’ll be using the “dip it in chocolate, it’ll be fine” motto.
