Awards, Trophies and Successes

It’s been a busy week in the Choctails camp, and very little time for production in amongst it, although a late order on Friday had us very busy on Monday.
It was Charity Tuesday on the 5th, as we entered a team into the annual Henry Surtees Foundation Charity Kart Race at Brooklands raceway and what a great day we had. During practice, we had the fastest time, although could only manage 5th in qualifying. Still, we were up against professional racing drivers, so the boys were reasonably happy with that. We dropped a couple of places in the initial stint, but teams wer_DSC0253e spinning off all over the place, and so by having a clean race, by the end of the second stint we were up into fourth. A clean third stint had us up into third place at which point we all stopped breathing. Strategy was now key – making the final driver change at the right time was crucial, but we managed it and held onto third place until the chequered flag. In addition to the third place trophies, the boys also received the Corporate trophy for the highest placed team. Great result!

Of course, there’s always the pleasure-pain theory, and Wednesday was clouded with Champagne hangovers, the likes of which I’ve not had in a long time!

Thursday was spent celebrating Mary’s 18th birthday with a day in London at the Shard and further wine and Champagne consumed.

Oh for a day off the drinking, but that was not to be. Friday was the Academy of Chocolate awards ceremony, with yet more Champagne and a chance to catch up with fellow chocolatiers and where we collected our Bronze award for the Pina Colada.

Further drinking was involved on Saturday, when we had a stall at Wivenhoe Regatta accompanied by a glass or two from the Dedham Vale stall next to us, before heading out for the evening’s festivities at a friend’s 50th birthday party. Phew!

So today, I have managed to extricate myself from the duvet to watch the Grand Prix and the Wimbledon final and very little else. I’m rather looking forward to a week away from the party scene as we prepare for the Cressing Temple Food Festival next weekend.

Hilary Delamare

Choctails® was founded by husband and wife team Simon and Hilary Delamare. Simon's suggestion of putting cocktail flavours into chocolate took Hilary's chocolate-making hobby to new heights, until in May 2012, the decision was made to turn the hobby into a full time business. The domestic kitchen became a production factory by day, and the dining room was given up to become a place where hand-made chocolate is crafted
